OrHeader photo. I finally got sick of the yellow halogen bulbs not matching the low beam D2Ss and bought a replacement set - 4000K Philips H7s for the highs and Osram W5W LEDs for the park lights.I recall someone mentioning that US-model Mk4s never had the OEM HIDs so as you might expect there's something of a lack of forum posts and Youtube videos concerning them compared to halogen fixtures.
The videos for non-HIDs make it look trivial, but I've got something of a space issue to deal with. With the ballasts stuck right behind the indicators and high beam bulb (, and this is after taking the battery cover off, ), there's almost no space behind the lights to work. The ballasts come off easily enough with the visible metal clips -, - but there's nowhere near enough room on either side to completely move it out of the way - I can barely make enough clearance to get my hand in, let alone get a grip on, or remove either bulb.It seems like the only reasonable way to do this is to remove the entire headlight assemblies, necessitating taking off the bumper - I'm not at all averse to this and it doesn't look difficult, but typically while I found my T20 driver easily enough I have apparently misplaced the T30 so a trip to the store is necessary. I suspect removing the bumper is definitely preferable to the battery and washer tank.Has anyone done this job? Am I wasting time thinking it might even be possible without taking the bumper off?.
